I really should be asleep, but......

*I've had caffeine today and I've got a BUZZ!!! Tonight I went to a dinner for the girls in the weekly Bible study I attend. It was supposed to be a time for us to meet each other's husbands but mine is gone. So my date was my friend Stacie whose husband is also out of town. It was still fun. I love our group - 3 girls from the Netherlands, 2 from Brazil, one from Portugal, one from Ireland and a few crazy Americans. We are a good mix with really different personalities and view points, not to mention languages and customs. (Tonight, one lady greeted another with cheek kisses, as is the norm here, but instead of the traditional Mozambican/Brazilian/Portuguese 2 kisses (one on each cheek) she gave three because she's Dutch and that's what they do in the Netherlands.)

*My kids have often heard me say, when I feel neglected or left out, "What am I? Chopped liver?" Yesterday I asked Amanda to help me in the kitchen while Abby (who is normally my right-hand-man in the kitchen) looked so dejected and said, "I'm a pork chop!"

*I woke up this a.m. at 7:00 a.m., rolled over, grabbed my book and read for an hour. I LOVE Saturday mornings!

*Remember the lady Rosa who visits me with her grandson Tiago? Last time she wanted me to write a letter to the orphanage where she wanted to leave him so he would not be adopted and she could return for him after a few years. Well, she came back yesterday, with Tiago (who is growing and is SO big!). She did not leave him at the orphanage and I think she has been lying to me. So disappointing. I hate it when I am a sucker. Tiago is innocent even if his grandmother is not truthful.

*My husband has been gone 18 days and is due home day after tomorrow. I am beyond ready for him to get home.

*We are looking forward to hosting several families in our home for a big Thanksgiving meal. I'm praying for a cloudy, cool day to cook and bake.

*Does anyone wonder where October went? Seriously, it feels like September was just last week!

*OK it's almost midnight so I should go to bed now.

I LOVE Abby!! :)
And I'd rather you be compassionate than cynical. It's not your fault either if she lies.
3 weeks is a really long time w/o your hubby. I hope the next 2 go by fast. Mine gets home tomorrow.
And no, I cannot believe October's over.

Angie, thank you so much for commenting about your first-hand experiences with the OCC shoe boxes on my blog. That meant so much to me!! I didn't realize they arrive so late in the year. It would be interesting to know of the things the kids REALLY love and the stuff we shouldn't worry about packing.

Thank you, also, for encouraging my son on his blog. I am so proud of him and all that he is going through right now.
