Better

Thanks for the words of encouragement and cyber-hugs you sent my way! I am feeling much better, thanks. God is so good and has blessed me with such a loving, sensitive husband. His extra hugs and attention, a cup of tea and three straight episodes of Navy NCIS Monday night did the trick I think. Unfortunately I did not get chocolate until yesterday.

And happy day-after-the-4th of July! I hope you all had a fun day. It's always strange for us to celebrate an American holiday while the rest of the world around us here is going about its normal, non-holiday, day. Charlie had to be gone pretty much all day yesterday but we were able to get together with our colleagues last night for a celebratory supper- complete with hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad and red, white and blue cupcakes (Thanks Karla....they were delicious!)

Celebrating Thanksgiving is a similar situation. We still like to observe this holiday, mainly because of the excuse it provides to cook and eat really yummy food! Thankfully, we can buy turkeys here, so this past year, in spite of the November heat, we enjoyed getting together with other Americans to eat turkey with all of the traditional trimmings. The ladies all stood in my kitchen, sweating, working together to make southern cornbread dressing, cranberry sauce (from a can) mashed potatoes, corn, rolls, desserts, etc. etc. It was really delicious and lots of fun.

Darn, now I'm hungry!

I'm just now catching up on several days of missed blog reading...and SO GLAD to see that KECIA succumbed to the pressure to blog! And laughing so hard that you think I'm COOL.

I'm glad you're feeling better. I wish you were here and I could take you to Sonic for a coke and a chat. Wouldn't that be fun??

Love your colorful cupcakes! Glad you guys could celebrate the day!

Hey Ang! I'm glad you guys got to celebrate, even if you were the only ones around. :) I'll never forget my cold July 4ths and hot Thanksgivings/Christmas... strange, but very memorable. :) Glad you're feeling better!

Hi! And thank you for the blog comment! I always think it is amazing when somebody I don't know comments! I have to say I am astonished to have someone in AFRICA comment! This world is so small with the invention of the internet!
Anyway, I enjoyed reading your blog too! I especially like the one about your kid's nicknames! I totally do that too! Ridiculously so! I will check back often, because I like you!

Angie,
Hey, thanks for the comment on my blog today...I think I've got things squared away now.

So what is the time difference between the US and Mozambique? And when is the last time your family was in the US? Do you feel at home when you're here or is Africa "home" to you now?

Sorry to bombard you with questions...

We celebrated the 4th once on a cruise ship in Greece. They gave us crackers with caviar (I know I'm spelling that wrong). It was really weird. Anyway, I'm glad you all keep your American traditions with the right food. I'm sure that's good for morale.
