Going to Jo'burg

When Charlie and I were in Kenya two and a half weeks ago, Luke, our 9 year old, was at school one day and his eye felt funny.  When he looked in the mirror the pupil in that eye was really, really tiny.  He showed his teacher and the school principal (remember -  really small school, no school nurse).  They checked his eye with a flashlight and although it did respond to light, the pupil remained very small for an hour or so.  Two days later it did the same thing, but Luke says it happened in the other eye.

When we got home and heard the details I started to be concerned so I started emailing our company nurses in South Africa who in turn contacted our former pediatrician and our company doctor.  Both agreed that we needed to look into why it had happened.  So long story short, we were able to get  Luke an appointment with a neurologist in Johannesburg for this week.  Getting an appointment with a specialist within 2 weeks is a great thing, so we are thankful.

So, Luke and I will fly to Joburg tomorrow, Nov. 12, then he'll see the neurologist the next day. The day we return home will be determined by what the dr. finds (or doesn't find) out or whether other tests will be required.  So please join us in praying for Luke - that this eye thing is nothing, or if it's something, we can find out exactly what it is and be able to treat it.

BTW, as of this a.m., his pupils have not "wigged out" again since that week.  We are thankful for that.  You can be sure I have been watching him closely.
