Not much here

I do not have some clever, funny post swimming in my brain just waiting to be typed out. Instead I just have cobwebs and thoughts of Coke Light (which Maputo is having a shortage of right now) and trying to ignore the of basket of laundry sitting behind me that needs to be folded. And I need to go to Shoprite (our local supermarket) as our cupboards are BARE (we didn't even have margarine to butter the toast with this morning!)

My kids are fine and growing up so quickly and I can do nothing about it. Hugging my oldest is like hugging a man! He started shaving last week. Yet he's still very much a little boy. He and his friend Zac got bored on Saturday and amused themselves with one throwing matchbox cars down the staircase and the other catching them in a trash can. Then they threw their shoes into the mango tree to knock down mangoes. It was a thrilling day for them.

Let's see.....oh, I spoke to the ladies at my church on Saturday at our Randomly Regular Ladies Meeting. Yes, it was in Portuguese - yikes! God has really been stretching me lately. It went well. I spoke to a huge crowd of 5. They were spellbound. Bless their hearts, having to sit and be a guinea pig for my portuguese practice. Now don't get me wrong, I spoke from the heart. What I said was serious. But I'm still talking like a 5 year old. Can you imagine a 5 year old leading your ladies meeting at church this weekend?? Beth Moore I am not.

We are gearing up for Thanksgiving next week....the temperatures have been climbing and my oven broke! So I'm all set. If the supermarket continues to not have turkeys (this time last year they had tons!) we'll really be ready.

Well I'm off to search for turkeys. Our first T-giving overseas I made roasted chickens and they are a decent substitute. And not as many leftovers.

Enjoy the pics of my big boy and his aging parents. And yes our camera has some sort of fuzzy, cloudy spot that shows up in outdoor shots.

Angie...

John and I were talking last night about how big our children are getting, and how we wish we could freeze time. It truly feels bittersweet sometimes doesn't it?

Ah, grocery shopping. Probably my least favorite task. I think because it NEVER ends. Our fridge is pretty bare right now, but that's a good thing because we're leaving tomorrow and will be gone for a week. I'll eat some turkey for you! Happy Thanksgiving!

Coleson is so big!!! I remember the first time I saw him, as he was whisked away by a nurse...

If it's any consolation, we've been having 80 degree weather here until yesterday. Do you make sweet potatoes? With marshmallows or pecans? Can you even get marshmallows or pecans? Will you get together with other missionaries or your parents? We're going to Pickle's Gap for Tg for the first time in 6 years. I'm so excited. :) Love you lots!

We'll be headed to TX in a couple of days for Thanksgiving, and we might need long sleeves at night. The weather's been really back and forth here. It's chilly today but back in the 80s by next week. It's just so hard for me to be in-the-mood for the holidays when it's hot!

When you say the temperatures climbing - how high is it climbing? (As I complain about the 80s being hot...)

All my children tower over me. It is unsettling , to say the least. Happy Thanksgiving! Are you cooking butternut?

Angie, I just returned from my 1st trip to Tanzania and I feel I can somewhat relate more to what you're saying (including Shoprite). I don't know if it was the heat that bothered me so much, being from Texas, but the humidity was unreal!

I also know about that 1st shaving thing, as my 14 yr old now towers over me, and also began shaving the peach fuzz just recently. The joys of watching them grow just never ends!
