Birthday Girl

My girl is 6!

Her birthday was yesterday and we'll have her party tomorrow. She requested fajitas for her birthday supper last night. As we ate, I told her birth story. Everyone was amazed that she weighed almost 10 lbs. when she was born!
Tomorrow morning I will attempt to transform a chocolate sheet cake into the head of Hello Kitty, much like I did last year for her strawberry-shaped cake.

This picture of Abby was taken last week while we were in the country of Malawi for our annual missionary training meeting. We flew into one city and had to take a 4 hour bus ride out to Lake Malawi where our meeting was held. Abby took an apple to munch on and after a while she showed me what was left of her apple....she's holding it in her hand: just the seeds!

Our time in Malawi was fun. It was not without excitement though. As we travelled on the bus pictured below, a crazy man who is known for throwing rocks at passing cars threw a fist-sized rock at our bus and shattered one of the large windows on the left side, sending glass flying everywhere. Thankfully the adults were sitting by that window and only sustained tiny, superficial cuts. We stopped on the side of the road and our bus driver borrowed a broom, swept out the bus as best he could, and we continued on our way. The rest of the trip was uneventful. We were all understandably a little subdued after that incident. But we made it safe and sound and enjoyed our time at beautiful Club Makakola.
Our bus was pink and painted on the side was "You Can Run But You Cannot Hide"
Here is our group waiting to board the bus. Coleson is hugging the bus, mainly because I think he was so glad to get off the plane. (He's a nervous flyer like his mom.) The window behind him is the one that was shattered.

Happy Birthday, Abby! Make your mom post a picture of that Hello Kitty cake.
Man, the things we take for granted in the States. Like saftey from rock throwers. Glad you're all okay!
Love you

So glad you guys are okay after the rock-throwing incident. That's kinda scary.

Wish your daughter a happy birthday for me. She is beautiful. I think six is a fun year for girls.

I love making birthday cakes for my kids. I've got the Winnie-the-Pooh design down, but funny, no one wants W-t-P now. Sigh.

When we lived in Arkadelphia, there were some MKs at our church from Malawi...the Farmer family. They had three daughters at Ouachita. By chance do you know them?

Have a great weekend.
