serious and not so serious

First the serious. So I heard a news report today about how one province in Spain has now outlawed bullfighting and yesterday was the final bullfight in this province. Outside there were animal rights activists protesting the bullfight where, yesterday, 6 bulls were killed. Bulls. Really?

In 2007 over 1,000 children died in the U.S. as a result of abuse or neglect. Over 3,000 abortions are performed DAILY in the United States.

I love animals. But I think that animals rights and animal care has been elevated to a place that is just ridiculous. Thousands of people - human beings - are starving worldwide and yet people are spending money on pet insurance and specialized food for their pets. How did this happen? What happened to Fido living outside and guarding your house and playing with your kids or even laying on his bed by the door but eating Alpo and table scraps? Now animals in this country have a cushy, well-fed, insured life while children in Nicaragua and Mozambique live in trash heaps and eat rotten food that we would NEVER give to our pets! Something is out of balance with that.

OK, I will step off of my soap box now. Not really sure how I got from bulls to pet insurance, but that's how my brain is working today. It's Monday.

And now the not so serious. I never realized that Al Roker (famous weatherman on a morning news show in the U.S. for those of you who are not familiar with American morning TV personalities) was so short! And I think he was a lot cuter when he was fat. Just saying. He looks unhealthy to me. Have you noticed that sometimes when people lose a lot of weight that they look gaunt and unhealthy and wrinkly? Maybe subconsciously I don't want to lose weight because I know that if I did I would just look bad. Although this fat girl is not looking too good as it is. Just saying.

Thanks for posting, Angie. This was good. I haven't seen a picture of Al Roker lately... I should look him up!
