This past Monday our family took our visitor,
Maddie, over the border to South Africa to
visit the Kruger National Park.
We were excited as we entered the park,
wondering what animals we would see
and hoping to spot Africa's Big Five:
Cape Buffalo, Elephant, Leopard, Lion and Rhino.
How'd you like to have their job? They are
game rangers riding BICYCLES through
the park that houses very dangerous, wild
animals. Yes, those are guns on their backs.
The Panic Hide.
That's a hippo head you can barely see.
The hippos were very active here that day,
although you cannot tell by this picture.
We are obviously professional photographers.
My favorite - giraffe. Hate that it's a bit fuzzy.
These young impala boys were feeling their wheaties.
Lunch stop at Skukuza
Although we only saw 4 of the Big 5 (we never
saw a leopard!) we were thrilled with the
number of animals we saw, including:
rhino, buffalo, lion, giraffe, zebra, snakes,
hippos, warthog, mongoose, wildebeest,
impala, ground hornbill, yellow hornbill (Zazu!),
vervet monkeys, water monitors, a catfish,
crocodile as well as scores of beautiful birds.
Maddie was happy with her sightings.
And God gave us a beautiful
sunset to end a beautiful day.
P.S. We took the kids out of school that day,
causing Luke to miss a class review for a test,
on which he performed poorly on Tuesday.
He came home declaring that as wonderful
as the day was that we spent in Kruger,
he would never skip school again to go back.
However, his siblings did not care one iota
that they missed tests or reviews and would
skip school again in a heartbeat!

Angie, I would gladly skip a day of "anything" to be able to tour the wildlife in Africa!
Thanks for the comment on my blog! Anytime you come to Arkansas and would love to come to our home for an area visit...you are welcome. We have had many missionaries in our home!
We have a young lady from our church in Africa at this very moment!
You have a great family!
Blessings!
Wow, I feel like I just got a glimpse at a story book from a faraway, make-believe land. So cool.
Great pictures! I love Kruger. Looks like you all saw some wonderful things!
Hope Luke is ok after that horrific lion attack! :)
Really, the lion attack made me laugh out loud! What beautiful pictures. And, in this case, I guess you can really be thankful for elephant poo.
He'll forget that bad grade but he'll NEVER forget his mom letting him ditch school for such a great adventure.
