Travelling

Well tomorrow I'll be getting on a plane to fly to Nairobi, Kenya. I will be gone for 15 days! Yep, that's 15 days of single-parenting for Charlie. And 15 days away from normal life for me. Wah-hoo!!!! I will miss my family VERY MUCH! But this is an awesome opportunity that I am oh so thankful for.

My first week in Nairobi will be spent with my parents who live there. I can't wait to hang out with them. My mom has already been asking me what meals I want her to cook for me. Yum! I think we'll be doing a little sight-seeing, some shopping and LOTS of talking. But did you notice that small detail of someone cooking for me?????? Ahhhh I can't wait. I promise to help with the dishes, Mom.

The second week there I will be attending a women's conference for all the missionary women in our organization who work in central, eastern and southern Africa. Our guest speaker will be Cynthia Heald, author of the Bible study Becoming a Woman of Excellence. I'm looking forward to being spiritually fed as well as spending time with all my friends who will be attending this conference. I foresee lots of late night talking, lots of coffee, and laughing. LOTS of laughing.

Pray for my family. I'm leaving a little one sick at home. Luke started running fever yesterday. He only seems to have symptoms of a bad cold (except the fever) so if he still has fever tomorrow Charlie will take him to the nearby clinic (which is literally 2 minutes from our house) for a malaria blood smear and they'll check him for infection. I hate leaving him sick but Charlie reminded me that Luke is almost 8,not a baby, and there is a whole household of them to take care of him.

I'm so thankful for my wonderful husband who is encouraging me to go. He frequently travels and it's no big deal. But when mama leaves it's a different story. I've typed up recipes and instructions for their favorite dishes. The pantry is stocked. I made and froze a ton of flour tortillas and some spaghetti sauce, so they are good to go. There's even ice cream in the freezer! The dosages for medicines are written out and posted on the fridge. I'm trying to think of everything! Am I missing something????

I know, I know. God is in control and will take care of them. I am NOT ever in control. I just live like I think I am sometimes.

Oh and tomorrow I turn FORTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES 40!!
Happy Birthday to me.

I read that book many years ago with a group of women, I need to dig it back up and reread some of it. I'll say a prayer that they all fair well without you.

Hi Angie - and Happy Birthday! I got your name from the IMB birthday list and then ran across your blog. I am a 44 yr. old - my secret dream has always been to be a missionary in Africa, and now it may come true. My family and I are talking to the IMB about this process now. I am praying for your safe travel, much enjoyment with your friends and family, and the best birthday ever. (Although it will be over by the time you read this - hope it was great!)
